Film Blog: Rift

This is the completed film. Overall, despite having to reshoot multiple scenes, my group is happy with the final result. In the future, if I made another film I would try to make shots like the tilt and shot reverse/ shot scene's a bit more clear. Also, I would try to find a better microphone situation so viewers can hear the actors better and not have to hear excess sounds from traffic and people. In all, my group is happy with the completed version of this film and all agree that we've learned and gained a lot of experience with the completion of this project.

Completing the Film

Image
My group has all the clips needed to finish editing. Due to the reshoot I have to edit everything together again but it shouldn't be difficult because I know how to do it now. Also, the editing was not the reason for the reshoot. This is helpful because I can basically edit the new clips the exact same way as I edited the unusable clips. This will make it easier for me to finish editing because I just have to do the same thing. I started by moving all of the clips into iMovie and put them into order. This was pretty straight forward, but the layout took a little while to completely arrange. After, I chose the proper transitions for each clip. The transitions I decided to use were fade light, fade dark, dissolve, wipe, and slide. Previously, I had only intended to use dissolve and fade. However, after seeing the clips together my group decided for some parts, wipe and slide worked. I then inserted the music and sound effects. The music was a little tricky to work with because I had

Fixing Park Scenes

Though it was already decided that there would be no more significant changes, my group had a change of heart. As my group reviewed the film that was put together, I kept thinking there was a problem with the park scenes. After some time discussing what could be done about this, my group finally made a decision. Though it is almost time for the final film to be ready, my group went back to film the park scenes. I tried my best to edit the scenes my group initially put together but it was decided that the film would be much better if the park scenes could just be reshot. This sounded like a lot of work which was the main reason why my group didn't want to reshoot these scenes.  However, my group wasn't happy with the previously completed version of the film. Due to this my group went to Easterlin park again and started to reshoot all park scenes. The priorities of this filming session were to make sure all dialogue was able to be heard and sounded more realistic. This basically

Making Adjustments

Image
Due to the film reviews my group received from friends outside the group, my group now knows what adjustments should be made for the final product. However, several members of my group also got the opportunity to review their friend's films. This opportunity allowed my group members to gain insight on how further changes could be made to then increase the quality of the film. Reviewing films made by other classmates gave my group a solid understanding on how dynamics like transitions and sound effects could play out in the film. Though these changes are not major by any means, they should make the film playout better. Essentially, I will change most of the transitions to make them smoothly change into the next clip. Some clips had no transitions and this made the film a little sloppy in some parts. Other clips used a transition called "Slide." There isn't really anything bad about this transition. However, this transition would work better in a presentation instead of

Film Review

Image
With my groups film being complete for now, each member asked a friend to review it. Once my group has seen what others think of the film, changes will be made depending on the level of criticism. The criticism my group members receive will be the major determining factor on how the final product looks. My group members plan to ask generally close friends to review the film. This is so they give valuable criticism instead of just saying something like "its good." I asked a classmate from another class to review the film. After watching it a couple times he told me their opinion. First, he said the acting was decent. This is pretty much what my group expected to hear going though. Also, he said the film quality could be better, but he understood that my group only had iPhone cameras. Due to some wind and not having tools that can keep the camera from not wobbling, some small parts of the film got a little shaky. When my group was initially filming there were a lot of retakes d
