Creative Critical Reflection

1.   My product uses conventions by expressing one of the more general and understood aspects of Gatorade and what it is marketed to do. My product (Gatorade) is used to energize and rejuvenate the athlete shown in commercial. This is conventional because it is widely known that Gatorade is supposed to help athletes regain energy and perform better. In my commercial you see an athlete running on a track trying to improve his time. The athlete struggles at the beginning, but once he cracks open his bottle of Gatorade his time drastically starts improving. The issue being displayed in our commercial directly correlates to athletes around the world. No matter how hard you try not to, you will get tired eventually. My commercial markets a product, Gatorade, that creates a temporary solution to this issue. 2.   My product engages with audiences in multiple ways. Many athletes drink Gatorade. Many athletes also except Gatorade as the best sports drink brand and feel a loyalty to the company.

My Commercial

This was my group's second project working together. It is also largest project we have had so far. Besides the total time it took to complete this project, the process and steps we took while making this far surpass the size of the project we worked on together in the past. My group has also gotten better at working together since we started. We now know what we can expect from each other and our individual strengths in regards to production. Now that we have finished and watched our commercial again, we are happy with what we made but still noticed it could be way better. We have learned a ton of things about the production process because of this project. This production was also first one my group has produced in general, knowing that we now have a better understanding of what we are capable of. We have definitely gotten a lot better since we started, however, we still have a lot to improve on in general. Even though it will take some time, we look forward to getting better a

Once all the videos were put into iMovie, I put them in order. This took me a couple minutes to do since we were dealing with 10 videos. I also had to redo the process multiple times because I couldn't identify the clips by their thumbnails which caused the order to be scrambled. After I finished with the order I made transitions between the clips. This was mostly easy because iMovie had preset sections for them. In the end I went with transitions called dissolve. By the time I was done with this my partner had already picked out an audio to go with our film. Surprisingly, the audio fit really well with our film. We only needed to adjust a couple video's times before it was aligned completely. We then spent some time figuring out how to adjust the volume on film and audio. We decided to just mute the film and only get sound from the audio. After completely implementing the audio we proceeded to try filters. We were looking for a filter that might make things more visible. We th

After finishing with filming, I was ready to start editing. For this class I was mainly setting things up to edit. My partner was researching music, soundtracks, and sound affects we could use. I began researching for editing software. My goal was to find a free service that my partner and I could both access. There are a lot of options, but it is more accessible for us to be able to use our phones. After looking for a while I decided to go with iMovie. By using iMovie both me and my partner could access it easily (Because we both have iPhones), and it is free for us. Also iMovie lets us use the videos we filmed and coordinate audio with it. Now that I picked a good editing software I had to sort through the videos we filmed. Out of nineteen, I picked ten. Some videos had issues like being unfocused or wobbling to much. After I grouped the videos I was going to use, I needed to adjust the size and frames. Some videos were to tall and needed to be shortened, and some needed to be less w

On Monday, the 4th my group continued filming. I still had the role as camera man but it was a little different this time. My partner had to film three scenes because of the placement. He was also still the character being filmed on screen. It was very bright out today so we had to film differently. The scene we were trying to film required a phone to be recorded by another. This is because one phone was acting as a stopwatch prop. To still get the shot we wanted my partner had to film his right hand with his left. He also had to do this under a tree to reduce the glare. The brightness of the sun wouldn't let us record out of the shade because we couldn't see the phone screen on camera. Once we decided to film under trees we were able to proceed. It took us a while to create a plan because of the different variables. Initially we didn't want to film under a tree because we thought it would make the setting change to much. To fix this problem we decided to film the track in
