Pitch Options

Image
Pitch A:  Someone hops into an Uber and the Uber driver isn’t headed to the correct location. I think this pitch could be a good choice since it fits into the thriller or horror genres very easily. The pitch works with realistic things that people are scared of happening. There are also good plenty of possible areas to make turning points as well as uses of symbolism in this short film. Though a down side could potentially be access to a car. Pitch B:  A student at home along with an intruder. I like the possibilities with this pitch as it also fits into the same categories as the last pitch. However, there are most likely a lot of films dealing with this idea so it might not be as original as I would want. It is very doable and filming could turn out well along with some creative shots and angles. Though similarly to the last pitch, access to a house isn't guaranteed. Pitch C:  An athlete who struggles under the pressure of his role. This pitch fits well with my gro...

My Group

Image
For this short film I have decided to work with a partner. Unlike last year where I worked with some other people, for this short film I will be working with a new partner named Dartamian. For my first and second projects last school year I worked in a two person group. This worked well as my partner and I were able to manage the time effectively. My partner and I were also able to rely on each others abilities. For my third project I worked in a group of four people. In the end my group was only able to just skate by. I would say this is because my group didn't communicate very well. One of my group members worked really well with me but the others weren't always as reliable as the group needed them. This was only really concerning to me as I still needed to finish the project at the time and things were moving very slowly and with not a lot of effort. However, I did just barely make it through so it wasn't the worst situation ever. Also, I don’t see where there could be a...

A Level Introduction

Image
Hi, my name is Jack Strien. Last school year I took AICE Media Studies at the AS level. I'm now sixteen years old, in the eleventh grade, and starting to take AICE Media Studies at the A level. On my AS level AICE exam I didn't get the score I had hoped for. This year, on the A level exam I intend to make myself better prepared for the exam and receive a higher score. I believe I can preform much better on my AICE Media Studies exam this year than I did last year. Even though they aren't the same exam I think I have a much better understanding of how I should treat my studying and preparing for my AICE exams and will try my absolute best on the A level AICE Media Studies exam. This school year I have developed new goals, but I still intend to get my AICE diploma. In my ninth grade year I earned two AICE credits. Last year, my tenth grade year, I earned four AICE credits. In all I now have six AICE credits and I'm taking three more AICE classes this year. I should have n...

Film Blog: Rift

Image
This is the completed film. Overall, despite having to reshoot multiple scenes, my group is happy with the final result. In the future, if I made another film I would try to make shots like the tilt and shot reverse/ shot scene's a bit more clear. Also, I would try to find a better microphone situation so viewers can hear the actors better and not have to hear excess sounds from traffic and people. In all, my group is happy with the completed version of this film and all agree that we've learned and gained a lot of experience with the completion of this project.

Completing the Film

My group has all the clips needed to finish editing. Due to the reshoot I have to edit everything together again but it shouldn't be difficult because I know how to do it now. Also, the editing was not the reason for the reshoot. This is helpful because I can basically edit the new clips the exact same way as I edited the unusable clips. This will make it easier for me to finish editing because I just have to do the same thing. I started by moving all of the clips into iMovie and put them into order. This was pretty straight forward, but the layout took a little while to completely arrange. After, I chose the proper transitions for each clip. The transitions I decided to use were fade light, fade dark, dissolve, wipe, and slide. Previously, I had only intended to use dissolve and fade. However, after seeing the clips together my group decided for some parts, wipe and slide worked. I then inserted the music and sound effects. The music was a little tricky to work with because I had ...

Fixing Park Scenes

Image
Though it was already decided that there would be no more significant changes, my group had a change of heart. As my group reviewed the film that was put together, I kept thinking there was a problem with the park scenes. After some time discussing what could be done about this, my group finally made a decision. Though it is almost time for the final film to be ready, my group went back to film the park scenes. I tried my best to edit the scenes my group initially put together but it was decided that the film would be much better if the park scenes could just be reshot. This sounded like a lot of work which was the main reason why my group didn't want to reshoot these scenes.  However, my group wasn't happy with the previously completed version of the film. Due to this my group went to Easterlin park again and started to reshoot all park scenes. The priorities of this filming session were to make sure all dialogue was able to be heard and sounded more realistic. This basically ...
