Creative Critical Reflection

1. My product uses conventions by expressing one of the more general and understood aspects of Gatorade and what it is marketed to do. My product (Gatorade) is used to energize and rejuvenate the athlete shown in commercial. This is conventional because it is widely known that Gatorade is supposed to help athletes regain energy and perform better. In my commercial you see an athlete running on a track trying to improve his time. The athlete struggles at the beginning, but once he cracks open his bottle of Gatorade his time drastically starts improving. The issue being displayed in our commercial directly correlates to athletes around the world. No matter how hard you try not to, you will get tired eventually. My commercial markets a product, Gatorade, that creates a temporary solution to this issue.

2. My product engages with audiences in multiple ways. Many athletes drink Gatorade. Many athletes also except Gatorade as the best sports drink brand and feel a loyalty to the company. This alone brings in an audience with athletes. You also don’t have to be a full-fledged athlete to workout sometimes and get tired while in the process. This is a very relatable problem to a large amount of people. Also, there are a lot of people who just like drinking Gatorade, as it is a very popular sports drink. This engages with multiple audiences through the interest in the brand alone, as well as the aspects it brings to the buyers of the product. The product can be distributed by promoting the commercial in various ways, for example: social media, stores, television.

3. Though I am not professional level by far, my production skills have greatly developed throughout this project. Throughout this project I have learned many things about production and generally, what it takes to make a non-professional quality commercial. I learned how to make general outline by making a storyboard with my group. Also, by working in my group, I learned how the dynamics of filming are affected when working with people. In using editing software, I learned some things about the different aspects in editing and putting together multiple videos with audio. In completing the steps to make and put together my commercial with my product my skills have improved overall. Since I had no experience and very limited knowledge on production, I would say that my skills have greatly improved from where they were previously.

4. In this project I have integrated and utilized tech, software, hardware, and the web. When my group started filming, we used iPhones to film and serve as a stopwatch prop. The technology I used would be the cameras on both of two iPhone. The hardware used would be the physical iPhones themselves and laptops we used to work on the project in general. We used software applications such as iMovie to edit, a stopwatch app, and the blogger website to upload blogs. Online, we used services like Canvas, YouTube, and Google to gather information and learn how to complete certain tasks. By using these things, they have been integrated into my project. Also, in integrating different aspects of these categories my group was able to complete this project.
