Genre Research: War

Image
Camera Angles and Movements: Close ups/Extreme Close ups on characters faces. This is done to show what they are feeling while everything else is happening around them.  Extreme Long Shot- this is typically used to show the sides of a war colliding.  Wide shot- this is used to show the subject and the scene of which the subject is in.              Mis-En-Scene: Costumes usually include camouflage clothing and helmets. Lighting can vary from full brightness in the middle of the day to pitch black to create a scene in the night. Makeup usually includes camouflage face paint and blood. Props are typically guns, medical kits, ammunition, and grenades.                Sound:  Sound Motifs are often used. The sound is usually gunfire or explosions. Diegetic sound often features explosions, gunfire, and screaming. Narration might also ...

Genre Research: Sci-Fi

Camera Angles and Movements: Close ups/Extreme Close Ups on technological elements. This is done to highlight the dependence on technology in the time period the film takes place in. Establishing shots on large or small sections of the cityscape, again done to showcase the widespread use of technology. Low Angle shots, most often used to empower certain characters in positions of authority. Mis-En-Scene: Costumes often exhibit urban and technological influences, and could potentially feature high-tech modifications to an actor's body. The lighting is generally reduced to convey a general sense of disrepair or gloominess, or just a general impression of dark situations. Makeup is used in conjunction with costuming to create technological modifications, or to show scars and grime on a character to convey an impression of hard living. Props and setting are both highly technological or scientific, often a combination of the two, and the setting may have influences to show a st...

Genre Research: Thriller

Camera Angles and Movements: Canted Angle - A slightly slanted shot that can portray madness, suspense, unease, etc.  Close up and Extreme Close ups - A shot that closes in on something adding a sense of drama, emotion, and tension. High Angle - A shot that focuses on something from a higher angle, this makes an uncomfortable and vulnerable environment for the character, making the higher position seem like higher power. Low Angle - A shot that focuses on something from a lower angle pointing upwards, it reflects the opposite effect as the high angle making the character in view seem more powerful. Wide Shot - A shot that shows entire objects, figures, and spaces to make someone seem isolated. Panning Shot - A shot that makes the viewer take in or search for something, or also focus on isolation.  Mis-En-Scene: Costumes : Monster, Killer, Pursuer, and everyday clothes. Lighting :  Under Lighting - When the main source of light comes from below the subject. High Key ...

Pitch

Image
Pitch 1 A group of researchers gathering information on an anomaly in their world, and its behaviors and properties. I thought about this pitch reasonably quickly. I want to do this pitch because I think it is practical, doable, and can be entertaining. I also think my group will be able to produce this pitch with little to no problems at all. For this pitch the props and costumes that would be used are relatively simple. Any props for this pitch should also be pretty easy to find and not cost a lot. When discussing with my group it was decided that this idea could be expanded on very easily. I think this idea has the most overall potential. Also, if anything were to go wrong I think this idea would be the most flexible. Pitch 2 Following a series of attacks in their hometown, a group of teens discovers all is not as it seems in the local forest. It took me a much longer to decide on this pitch. While it may seem simple, there are also individual factors for each group member that can ...

Who I'm Working With

Image
For the final task I am working in a group of four. The group I am in has Jake, Kyle, Kaden, and I. We all share the same class period. So far I have only worked on projects in this class with Jake. We have worked on 3 other projects than this one. However, this project will be the first time either of us work in a whole group for this class. During the last projects we have worked on, Jake and I worked as a group of two. Due to this, the productivity and quality of our film should be better than the ones I have worked on in the past. Now that we have a larger group we have much more options. For example, there can be a designated camera operator, or even that we swap around a camera and use the entire group inside the film. Also Kyle and Kaden have worked on the same projects we have, but separately from us. This means we all have at least relatively the same amount of experience. This is beneficial to all of us because we won't have to take much time to adjust to working together...

Intro blog for the Final Task

Image
Hi, my name is Jack Strien. I'm fifteen and in the 10th grade. I currently go to Fort Lauderdale High School and am enrolled in AICE Media Studies. At the time this is being written I am in the second quarter of the school year. So far during this school year I have learned some information about this class and what to expect of my final project. Though I am still developing my abilities relating to film creation, I'm excited to complete my final task. Initially, I choose to take this class to get better at analyzing things. Throughout my life I have seen many TV shows and movies. I thought it would be cool to be better at understanding films in the way they were made to be projected to the viewer. By getting better at understanding a film from the creators thought process I think I would understand the concepts and enjoy the film better overall. I would also like to build a better understanding at some of the basic skills used in our film making process. This pretty much means...
