Filming Blog: Base Scenes

For my group's first filming day I planned to get the scenes for my film that involves the character known as base. The scenes that base is in are 7, 8, 13, 14, 15, 22, 23, 24, 28, 29, and 30. To complete these scenes my group met up at a group member's house. My group would also need access to have access to any type of computer, multiple sheets of paper, a desk, and operator like clothing and gear. When my group initially put together an outline for the decided plan, there was a clear idea made of what was needed to be completed.  However, even though a clear plan was created my group ran into a couple issues. For example, my group of four needed to film multiple scenes in another group member's house. This became an issue because my group member's family was home during our filming process. This was only problematic because my group had to deal with not filming background sounds. Also, my group found that it was very difficult to film these scenes in a small room, which was my group member's bedroom. I had to film in my group member's bedroom because it was the only room in his house that had a usable desk and wasn't entirely affected by background sounds. My group also found that because the bedroom's light was more yellow than white, our lighting for the scenes was messed up in the majority of the shots that were filmed. However, my group was able to make due with a lamp and phone flashlight that were already in the room. Of the eleven scenes my group filmed today, I had the most difficulty with scenes 13 and 14. This is because I had to film the usage of a computer while still making sure the shot didn't get blurry or shaky. Besides these issues, my group was able to smoothly finish filming. Due to filming the shots with the base scenes first, the scenes I filmed will have to be aligned with the remaining scenes. This is because if the audio of the shots are not aligned out film will seem to have really bad quality. My group expects this part to be somewhat difficult. However, I still have to film the rest of the scenes and voice overs. The next filming day my group has will likely cover around 10 more scenes that involve the scientist characters.

Filming in the House

My group first met at my house. I had made sure to previously move the things I didn't want in the background out of the room I planned on filming in. My group got situated  in the room which is by my front door. Though, I had some immediate concerns. This room has windows so there is a little bit of natural light that is shinning through. Though there isn't enough to light up the whole room. This was a little problematic because the only other option was to turn on the room lights. The room lights were making the shots look a little yellow in the clips my group recorded. However, after my group spent some time trying to adjust both the light dimness  and the curtains, my group was able to find lighting that would work with the camera my group was using. Since the camera on my partners iPhone is somewhat high quality, my group decided to film with my partners phone. Storyboard Blog: Music Video

Scene 1: This scene begins with extreme close-ups on the actor's eyes and facial expressions and shifts between the two. There will not be much background definition, and it will last for three to five seconds. Scene 2: This scene will consist primarily of a wide shot of the actor walking down a railroad, and will pan to follow the actor as they curve further along the track. It will last several seconds longer than the last. Scene 3: This scene will begin with a low angle shot and will move further up the actor's profile until the focus is on the sun. This scene will be roughly as long as the one preceding it, and will be filmed fairly far away.   Hi, my name is Jack Strien. I'm 15 years old and in the tenth grade. I go to Fort Lauderdale High School and take AICE Media Studies in my 3rd hour class. I initially wanted to take the course so I could learn more about analyzing and understanding the things I see in media related content. I have watched and still do watch a lot of tv shows and movies. I think because of this I started to develop an interest in what happens behind the scenes. When my older sister went to high school she took a class for photography. Sometimes when she was doing assignments I would see what she was doing. I always thought it was cool how she was taking pictures from different angles. Though I do know AICE Media Studies will be hard at times I'm still excited to learn about it.
