Filming Blog: The Track
On Thursday, the 30th my partner and I starting to film. My role was to be the camera man. My partner was the character on camera. Since my group only consists of me and my partner, it took more steps to set up than other groups. We decided to film on the track that belongs to our school. My partner was already wearing his athletic clothes that were his costume, so he only had to take off a jacket before we started filming. On the track, we had to take into account that there were other people, iguanas, and stuff already on the track. We then found a spot with little traffic that would work well. It was also pretty hot out with not a lot of shade. As props we used my phone as a camera, his phone as a stopwatch, and a bottle of Gatorade. My phone camera is average for a smart phone, so it had some troubles staying focused and and not getting blurry. Also, we didn't have any gear for filming besides my phone so it was hard to get decent shots. Due to this we had a couple re-takes. We utilized wide angle shots, pans, tilts, medium long shots, long shots, over the shoulder shots, close-ups, and extreme close-ups. The shots that showed any background were the hardest. We didn't want any people or things on the track in our shot. We didn't get to the track until about a third of the class time passed so we were only working for about an hour. For around 20-30 minutes while we were on the track we mapped out our shots and were figuring out what settings were available on my phone's camera. During the remaining half an hour or so we filmed our shots. Some shots are still somewhat iffy so we plan on reviewing and re-taking some during our next class. We are close to being done filming entirely.
